Take Action
Rady Children's Health is committed to providing you with a rewarding employment experience. That begins with a comprehensive benefits program to support your total well-being. Below, you’ll find everything you need to know in order to take full advantage of the plans and resources available to you. Let’s get started!
Think about the whole cost
When choosing a medical plan, it’s important to think about the whole cost of coverage — the amount you’ll spend out of your paycheck, as well as out of your pocket when you receive care (copays, deductibles, and coinsurance).
How to Enroll
How to enroll for Orange County employees
- Log in to Workday and look for a task in your Workday inbox to begin the process.
- Once you complete your enrollment, make sure you click the orange Review and Sign button, then scroll down and check I Accept and the Submit button to finalize your elections.
- Your elections will not be considered complete until you have checked the I Accept and the Submit button on the final screen.
- For step-by-step enrollment instructions, visit the Documents page.
- It is recommended that you print and save a copy of your benefit elections for your records.
How to enroll for San Diego employees
- Log in to PeopleSoft. Use the same User ID and password that you use to log into the hospital network.
- Once logged in, click the Benefit Details tile in Employee Self-Service, then click Enroll in Benefits to display your Enrollment event and get started.
- Your elections will not be considered complete until you hit Submit on the final screen in PeopleSoft. If you do not hit Submit, your changes/elections will not be processed.
- For step-by-step enrollment instructions, please visit the Benefits page on the intranet.
- Important note: Enrollment in voluntary benefits is not through PeopleSoft. If you want to enroll in voluntary benefits (accident, critical illness, hospital indemnity, legal, identity theft protection, and/or short-term disability), please visit the Selerix portal to complete/update your enrollment in these plans.
New hires and life events
You must enroll within 31 days of your date of hire or within 31 days of your transfer to a benefits-eligible position or returning from a leave of absence (if applicable).
Qualifying life events
After Open Enrollment ends, you cannot change your benefit elections unless you experience a qualifying life event such as:
- Change in marital status
- Birth, adoption or change in custody of eligible dependent
- Death
- Change in your employment status (e.g., you transfer into a benefits-eligible position or you experience a change in standard hours which significantly impacts your premium amounts)
- Change in your spouse’s employment status
- Gain or loss of other employer or government sponsored health plan coverage
If you experience a qualifying life event, you must make changes to your benefits coverage within 31 days of the event to have coverage this year. A transfer from a benefits-eligible position to another benefits-eligible position is not a qualifying life event, and is not an opportunity to change or add benefits.
Coverage effective dates
- New hires: Coverage takes effect on the first of the month following hire date.
- Supplemental life insurance, STD and LTD subject to Evidence of Insurability (EOI): Coverage takes effect the first of the month following the date Unum approves the coverage.
- Qualifying life events or transfers to a benefits-eligible position: Coverage takes effect the first of the month following the date of the event, except for supplemental life insurance, STD or LTD requiring EOI (see above).
- Births: Coverage takes effect as of the date of birth.
How to make changes to your beneficiaries
Eligibility
Health and income protection benefits
All active regular full-time or part-time employees who are scheduled to work the minimum required hours (20 or more hours per week for Orange County employees, and 18 or more hours per week for San Diego employees) are eligible to participate in our benefit programs. You may also enroll your eligible dependents in any applicable plans.
Your eligible dependents include:
- Spouse/Registered domestic partner
- Your child(ren) and the child(ren) of your eligible spouse/Registered domestic partner (up to age 26)
- Children with disabilities who became disabled on or before age 26
Please note: When enrolling your spouse/domestic partner or child(ren), you will be required to provide proof of marriage, California domestic partner registration and/or birth certificates. For a list of acceptable documentation in each region, please visit your Intranet.
ACA Eligibility
Under The Affordable Care Act (ACA), you are eligible for coverage if you have worked on average either a) 30 hours or more per week or b) 130 hours per month in a “look back period,” which is October 1 – September 30. If your status changes and you no longer are benefits eligible, all benefits coverage will cease, except for your enrollment in a medical plan. You will remain covered under the medical plan through the end of the calendar year, unless you elect to cancel this coverage. If you waive your ACA medical coverage and become benefits eligible again in the same year, you will not be able to enroll in medical coverage.
